It started with a kid racing motocross in the 1980s, a rattle can, some masking tape and a fascination with painted crash helmets. Nearly four decades later, that same passion is what drives every helmet that leaves the X-Paint studio.
Based at Sandown Coachworks in Camberley — with our showroom within Creed Gallery — X-Paint brings 38 years of airbrushing, design and custom paint craft to every project. From club racers on a tight budget to show-standard builds that happen to go racing, the philosophy never changes: choose the right tools for the job, never the easiest.
We work with all major helmet brands including Arai, Bell, Stilo and Shoei, and can supply a full range of helmets for two wheels or four, road or track. You’re equally welcome to send us your own lid.
Choose Your Finish
Three tiers. One standard of finish.
Whether you’re lining up on a grid or heading out on a Sunday ride, every helmet we touch gets the same care and attention — Every project — regardless of tier — goes through the same rigorous preparation process. Helmets are stripped, keyed and inspected before a single drop of paint is applied. The base work is done properly, the clearcoat is laid to a professional standard, and the final finish is flatted and polished until it’s smooth to the touch. That’s not something we switch on for the expensive jobs. It’s just how we work.
What the three tiers give you is a choice of how far you want to take the design and the finish effects — from a clean, sharp result at an accessible price point, through to fully bespoke hand-airbrushed artwork with no limits on colour, technique or complexity. Every tier is appropriate for road or track use. The finish you choose has absolutely no bearing on what you do with the helmet afterwards.
Race Paint — from £450
The serious option at a sensible price.
Race Paint is built for riders and drivers who want a proper custom helmet without the full custom price tag. Using professional-grade decals applied over a quality paint base, Race Paint delivers a clean, sharp finish that looks the part on the grid or the road.
This isn’t a compromise. It’s a different product for a different brief — and it’s finished to the same exacting standard as everything else that leaves our studio.

Rapid Road Paint — from £650
More depth. More personality. More paint.
Rapid Road steps things up — multiple base coats, metallics, pearls and more complex design layouts, with professional decals applied over a richer, more considered paint foundation. This is where your helmet starts to genuinely turn heads, whether that’s in the paddock, the car park or the showroom.
If Race Paint is the sharp suit, Rapid Road is the bespoke one.

Custom Airbrush Paint — from £1,000
The world’s your oyster.
This is what X-Paint is built on. Nearly four decades of airbrushing, illustration and custom paint craft — brought to bear on your helmet. Candies, pearls, chrome effects, hand-painted portraits, team liveries, one-off artwork. Every line applied by hand. No decals. No shortcuts. No two helmets the same.

How It Works
1. Get in touch — Tell us what you’re thinking. A few words, a rough idea or a detailed brief — we’ll work with whatever you’ve got.
2. Scope and quote — We confirm what’s achievable within your chosen tier and give you a clear price. No surprises.
3. Book your slot — A deposit secures your place in the production queue.
4. Prep and paint — Strip, key, repair if needed, prime, base, artwork, clear. Every stage done properly.
5. Final finish — Flatted, polished and ready to go. We’ll ship back to you or you can collect in person from Sandown Coachworks in Camberley.

Don’t have a helmet yet? No problem. X-Paint can supply helmets from all major brands — road and track, two wheels and four. Starting from a fresh shell gives us the cleanest possible canvas and simplifies the whole process.
